Théorie du sauna / Sauna theory

Je suis (re)tombée aujourd'hui sur le blog d'Alexia, une Française qui vit en Finlande depuis huit ans. Elle décrit les petites particularités de la vie ici avec beaucoup d'humour et je la rejoins sur la plupart de ses commentaires. En particulier, elle propose une théorie originale et très intéressante sur l'origine des saunas:

Selon moi le Finlandais a un jour décidé de prouver au monde entier qu’il ne boit pas sans raison. Le pays abonde de lacs, les étés n’ont franchement rien de caniculaires, le seul moyen d’avoir soif il fallait l’inventer. Ainsi pour justifier sa déshydratation, et par la même occasion une consommation d’alcool démesurée, la boîte à transpiration qui l'OBLIGE à boire fut créée!

Voilà qui expliquerait bien des choses... ;-)

Today I came (again) across a blog written by Alexia, a French girl who's lived in Finland for 8 years. She describes little particularities of living here, with a lot of humor, and I agree with her for most of her comments. In particular, she offers a very original and interesting theory about saunas' origin (personal translation):

According to me, the Finns once decided to prove the whole world that they did not drink without a reason. The country is full of lakes, summers are not exactly super-hots, the only way to be thirsty they needed to invent it. So in order to justify for their dehydration, and also for their excessive alcohol consumption, they created a sweating box that FORCES them to drink !

That would provide a very good explanation for certain things...
