Today is a special day: it's Easter Sunday. My Catholic upbringing reminds me that today we celebrate the resurrection of Christ, which managed 2000 years ago the most successful communication operation in History. There was a time when, on Easter eve, my family went to church. The Poor Clare sisters had prepared a bonfire in their backyard, where the priest lit a huge candle. Every believer has its own white candle to be lit to the bigger one, and this little blessed flame accompanied us for part of the Mass until it was filed in a large jar of sand where they got consumed all together. It was my favorite mass of the year!
Today, I am not going to Mass anymore; when I realized that beyond the rituals, all these Christians really believed in an almighty God, I could not follow them there. But I keep the memory of all those beautiful things that religion tries to teach us. Even without believing in God and the resurrection of His son, Easter is a celebration of light and life back. The trees are budding , days become really long, flowers emerge and the sun is warm again. It is so beautiful that it makes me very joyful!
I am writing from my veranda, lying in a t -shirt and shorts on our outdoor sofa that has recently emerged from its winter package. The sun warms my skin and I feel my batteries charging. On the table beside me there is a tree branch with buds and paper flowers that nice little witches came to offer us in exchange for chocolate (a Finnish tradition). I planned to go in a few minutes to wake the flowerbeds in the garden, then we will join friends for a nice walk in nature. I do not know if Christ has truly risen from the dead, but in any case, that's what's happening to me right now!
